Over the past couple of years, and with the expert help of several colleagues, Dr. Loren Lerner and Dr. Janice Anderson have been assembling material for an online biographical dictionary of contemporary Canadian crafters – textile/fibre, ceramic/clay, glass artists, and artists using craft. We are now looking at Craftivism – artists who use craft to make a political or social statement. Craft and Craftivism: A Biographical Dictionary of Contemporary Canadian Crafters will be published by the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Institute of Canadian Art, Concordia University. We now have significant lists of suitable candidates for inclusion, filling a lacuna in current research resources on this topic.
We are ready to hire more biographical writers. Most of the work will take place over the course of June 1-August 31, 2023. Writers will be compensated for each biographical entry.
If you are interested in being one of the writers for this project, please email Loren Lerner, attached in WORD or as a PDF, your curriculum vitae and two different examples of what you have written, no more than three pages per example. firstname.lastname@example.org
Deadlines and Notifications:
April 28: The deadline for applying is April 28.
May 3: We will notify you by May 3 if we are interested in your candidacy, and we will ask you to write two biographies of craft artists we will send you to ascertain whether you meet the qualifications for this project.
May 17: The two biographies will be due by May 17.
May 23: Successful candidates will be notified by May 23.
