Fellowship Opportunity – Leonard A. Lauder Fellowships in Modern Art

FELLOWSHIP – Each year, The Metropolitan Museum of Art awards two Leonard A. Lauder Fellowships in Modern Art. Deadline for applications is Friday, November 6, 2020 at 5pm EST. The application portal can be accessed by clicking this link

One is a two-year position that is intended for a predoctoral candidate embarking on a dissertation; the other is reserved for a qualified postdoctoral scholar at any career stage and may be one or two years in duration. Both fellowships encourage new directions in the broader field of modern art, architecture, design, and visual culture around the world. Recent awards have supported the work of scholars focused on the agents, dealers, and reception of Cubism, as well as Art Brut, Czech modernism, Dada, Brazilian modern art, interwar European Abstraction, Russian Constructivism, and Surrealism.

Founded in April 2013, the Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art is a leading center for scholarship on modern art. The first such institution dedicated exclusively to the study of modernism within an encyclopedic museum, the Research Center makes critical contributions to the field through its fellowships for emerging scholars, and its robust program of senior scholar residencies, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, publications, and research projects. While maintaining a special focus on the study of Cubism and its enduring impact, the scope of the Research Center’s investigations in modern art are wide and continue to expand. The fellowships are one of the most important programs of the Research Center.
